Lamine Yamal Names Messi Best Player at World Cup
Barcelona and Spain player Lamine Yamal stated that Lionel Messi was the standout performer at this summer's World Cup in North America.
Veteran forward Messi had a remarkable individual tournament. He significantly contributed to Argentina's campaign, achieving 12 direct goal involvements.
These efforts led Argentina to the final against Spain, where they defended their world champion title.
However, the final saw a clear difference in quality between the two teams, with Messi's brilliance not enough to secure victory.
Despite the loss, Lamine Yamal remains convinced that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner's achievements at the 2026 World Cup were exceptional.
In a recent interview with Movistar, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona's young talent Lamine said:
“Lionel Messi was the best player at the World Cup due to what he represents and all he accomplished. While everyone acknowledges Messi as the greatest player ever, nobody anticipated such an incredible World Cup from him.”
